How does such a tiny bee efficiently find profitable flowers in the big wide world? Insects are unions of high-performance sensory systems. Many insects use volatile chemical compounds via olfactory systems as cue to find their food sources. Chemical compounds used by organisms for exchange of information are termed "infochemicals". My research focus is on the funcion of plant volatiles as infochemicals in plant-insect interactions. Using techniques of analytical chemistry and comparative ecology, I would like to solve the question how specificity of plant volatiles is generated and forms specific behaviour of foraging insects. Life is full of wisdom beyond our imagination. Wonderful abilities are evolved in each organism. I would like to understand a part of them through my research, and contribute to solve medical and agricultural issues in human society.
