The essential of our research is the development of highly functional molecules for drug discovery. Our current efforts include the design and synthesis of bioisosteres and bio-inspired organocatalysts, the development of new practical and innovative reactions, and the application of these molecules and methodologies to medicinal chemistry and chemical biology. Specifically, we have pioneered the use of alkene-type dipeptide isosteres as amide bond bioisosteres in medicinal chemistry. These isosteres provide valuable information for drug discovery against intractable diseases such as AIDS and Alzheimer's disease, and offer new opportunities to work in the area of synthetic organic chemistry and related sciences. We are contributing to the human health and welfare by organic chemistry through the design and synthesis of highly functional molecules.
