A Short-Step Synthesis for Fairy Chemicals: Green Manufacturing Using Fine Bubble Technology

A research group directed by Professor Nobuyuki Mase at the Research Institute of Green Science and Technology, Shizuoka University, has successfully developed a strategic green manufacturing synthesis for fairy chemicals. These compounds, originally discovered by Professor Hirokazu Kawagishi (now Professor Emeritus) and his colleagues, are expected to act as new plant hormones, necessitating the development of industrial production methods.

The key points of the research are as follows:

Short-Step Synthesis: Achieved the short-step synthesis of fairy compounds using inexpensive raw materials, resulting in a 47% overall yield.

Fine Bubble Technology: Introduced one-pot hydrogenation and cyclization reactions utilizing fine bubble technology developed by the research team.

Isolation of DICA: Successfully isolated 4-diazo-4H-imidazole-5-carboxamide (DICA), an intermediate previously considered unstable, as a stable solid.

Efficient Cyclization Method: Developed a new method for efficient intramolecular cyclization reactions, achieving a reaction time of just 13 minutes using iodine-based organocatalysts.
