Fungi can be broadly classified into basidiomycetes, such as shiitake and matsutake mushrooms, which are widely consumed as food, and ascomycetes, which include yeasts, molds, and entomopathogenic fungi. We focus on basidiomycetes and entomopathogenic fungi, using cutting-edge analytical techniques such as next-generation sequencing and transcriptome analysis to elucidate the molecular mechanisms that control the life cycle and secondary metabolism of fungi.
Our research focuses on the following three themes:
(1) Studies on the molecular mechanisms of secondary metabolism and fruiting body formation in entomopathogenic fungi.
(2) Studies on the physiological effects of fairy compounds in the fairy ring phenomenon and the molecular mechanisms of mushroom-plant interactions.
(3) Study on the molecular mechanisms regulating the life cycle of mushrooms and entomopathogenic fungi.
